Educational Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Special Education Teacher, the Educational Instructor is responsible for providing direct support, instruction and guidance to students at the CSM locations.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree highly preferred in a human services discipline, (e.g. Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, Human Resources, etc.) GED or high school diploma required.

Experience:
Minimum one (1) years’ experience providing direct support to individuals with autism or developmental disabilities. Prior experience supporting individuals in a school/educational setting highly preferred. Prior experience supporting students transitioning to supported employment a plus.
Skills: Must possess strong written and oral communication skills, as well as good organizational and coordinative ability. Must possess and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise patience, caring and concern in new and sometimes stressful situations. Computer literacy required, with a proficiency in standard business software applications (i.e., word processing, email and spreadsheets).

NATURE AND SCOPE
 Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team as appropriate for each student.
 Assists Special Education Teacher in planning and implementation of the daily schedule; participates in selected activities in the schedule as needed.
 Follows and implements student’s behavioral program at all times.
 Assists teacher in ordering, purchasing, and making appropriate instructional materials.
 Assists teacher in maintaining classroom records and instructional and behavioral data.
 Maintains a structured, organized classroom environment
 Provides job coaching and supervision to individuals in supported employment worksites; provides training to individuals in community

SKILLS
 Provides travel training to individuals in the use of public buses, trains, etc. as needed; transports students to work sites and/or community activities in CSAAC vehicles as needed.
 Adheres to mandatory use of CIMS system to access, send email and access and report health information, data and incidents for individuals supported in CSAAC program. Adheres to mandatory use of 2interactHRM software for Human Resource and Accounting related duties.

REQUIRED TRAINING/PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS
 Completion and demonstration of techniques taught in the Behavioral Principles and Strategies Training (BPST).
 Successfully complete annual recertification of the BPST.
 Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record free of any moving violations for the past two 2 years.
 Driver license, defensive driver training, must operate CSAAC vehicles as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling and stooping. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 20 pounds. Employee must be able to complete training and effectively perform non-adverse physical interventions with autistic individuals of varying heights, weights and levels of physical strength according to the guidelines presented in Behavioral Principles and Strategies training.
