Job Description
SCOPE OF WORK:
An Electrical Estimator will work closely with clients and estimating teams throughout the pre-construction phases of various projects; develop and/or overseeing conceptual budgets, develop and propose value engineering ideas with associated pricing and produce a hard-bid estimate. An Electrical Estimator will work under the guidance of the Director of Preconstruction.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Is primarily responsibility of selling electrical services as they pertain to construction projects up to $20 Million in contract size.
- Produce complete design documents based on project narratives, design meetings, and project budget.
- Schedule & attend meetings with customer and/or design team as required.
- Will gather data to prepare hard bid proposal estimates.
- Perform take-offs from drawings/narratives/requisitions, pricing change orders, and conducting site visits to understand the constructability of projects.
- Understanding plans and specifications to identify the types and grades of materials and equipment needed to ensure the compliance with project requirements.
- Developing project schedules utilizing the Critical Path method, assigning cost and manpower to the schedule.
- Developing budgets and cost codes for projects.
- Developing and presenting clear and detailed project scopes to the customer and meeting with the potential customers to present proposals.
- Design specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish work.
- Assist in the determination of budget, schedule, approach and organization for multiple projects.
- Researching and compiling submittals, pricing change orders and preparing a complete project estimate.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must hold a valid Texas electrical license.
- Have experience with Accubid and AutoCad.
- Have basic mechanical aptitude, mathematical and English language skills.
- Must have a current driver’s license.
- Must have own reliable transportation.
- Must be flexible to come in early and stay late as customer and project demands dictate.
- Must be capable with business software, computers, and office machines.
- Be able to establish scope of work by a complete review of plans, specs and estimates.
- Be able to work well in a “team” environment.
- Be familiar with electrical equipment, materials and specifications.
- Have knowledge of reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications.
- Have the ability to communicate effectively and professionally; in written form and verbally.
- Have experience working with contract documents and applicable vendors.
- Have the ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness in estimating practices.
- Have the ability to monitor own work to ensure quality.
- Have the ability to effectively present information to customers, clients, and other employees.
- Must be able to build and develop business relationships with potential clients.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Personal weight and tools cannot exceed weight limit of ladders (Class 1-250lbs, Class 2-300lbs).
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach over head.
- Constantly move about on the feet.
- Climb ladders of all types.
- Complete full day assignments.
- Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to access all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction, but acceptable for use.
- Possess good vision, normal or corrected.
- Possess good hearing, normal or corrected.
- Must be able to positively identify different colors.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
May work inside or outside while wearing required personal protective equipment at all times; possible exposure to hot and cold temperatures, weather elements, dust, toxic materials, in restricted or confined spaces, and on slippery or uneven surfaces; works on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, in ditches and excavations; works in and around single and multi-story buildings with all exposures typical of a heavy construction site, including portable sanitary facilities.
