DEPARTMENT: PARTS
POSITION: OUTSIDE PARTS SALES CONSULTANT

 

Job Objective: Generate, capture and maintain parts sales outside the dealership through
professional, effective and detailed sales presentations on the products and services offered by
the company.


Reports to: Parts Manager & Assistant Parts Manager

 

Core Tasks for Which this Job is Responsible:


- Call on and meet with existing customers at their businesses to review products, determine sales opportunities, and close sales. Some calls are regular stops with no appointment and some are scheduled appointments.
- Travel is required on most days.
- Discuss product lines with each customer that they are currently purchasing from our competitors and determine ways to gain the business.
- Provide product quotes to customers.
- Increase sales revenue each year by generating new accounts through cold calls, visits, referrals, advertising.
- Maintain constant communication with accounts in order to keep strong relationships, inform them of pricing changes, new product information, etc.
- Process all filter rebates in a timely manner, if applicable.
- Provide assistance to the Service Department and your Customer when your Customer is doing business in the Service Department (liaison).
- Provide feedback and information to Sales Manager when truck and trailer sales opportunities are discovered.
- Provide feedback and information to Parts Manager regarding competition strategies and tactics.
- Follow up and process any special ordered parts which you ordered or for which you are responsible.
- Fill in sales roles at the Dealership Parts Department during absences as needed.
- Complete and turn in Parts Inventory Discrepancy Forms when any inventory discrepancy is discovered.
- Assist in Parts Department marketing efforts.
- Occasionally attend industry related functions and events.
- Maintain job related training.
- Any other duties or special projects required to successfully accomplish the role of OPS Consultant.


Accountability Criteria:
- Customer satisfaction and Customer service
- Sales and Gross Profit volume
- New business acquired
- Number of sales calls completed


Decision Authority:
- Determination of Customer’s parts needs.
- Special order parts for Customers per Company policy.
- Adjust pricing in order to gain or maintain business per Company policy.

 

Skill & Knowledge Requirements:
- General heavy truck industry, product, and market knowledge
- Social and interpersonal skills and ability to build positive Customer relationships
- Computer and software skills
- Organized
- Self-starter and able to work independently as well as with a team


Entry Level Education & Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in heavy truck and parts industry


Physical Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license
- This job requires working in an office environment, substantial time driving an automobile,
entering and exiting the vehicle, and consulting with Customers at their place of business. Some
days could include 200 or more miles of driving; some days will be 100% in the office.
