General Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Purchasing Manager, the Purchasing Clerk is responsible for providing support for purchasing functions. Performs clerical functions which include data entry, filing, emailing, answering calls, report generation, vendor and inter-departmental interface, item number selection/assignment, and expediting material. Assists with additional workload in the absence of other team members or when needed.

Functional Requirements:

  1. Knowledge of basic practices and regulations applying to purchasing and accounting.
  2. Good negotiation skills.
  3. Basic math skills.
  4. Proficiency in computer-based system usage.
  5. Good written and oral communication skills as required for internal and external interface.
  6. High regard for fairness and ethical behavior.
  7. Must be self-directed and detail oriented.
  8. Capable of organizing workload, adapt quickly to change, and deliver under pressure of deadlines.

Qualification Standards:

  1. 1+ years of general office experience including data entry, filing, telephone, email, printer, scanning.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Experience in intermediate levels of Excel, Word, and Outlook
  4. Pre-employment/post-employment qualification test (typing/data entry).
  5. Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation.
  6. Turner Industries Group/Job site orientation/Hazard Communication and required tests.
  7. Job site "Personal Protective Equipment" requirements (hearing protection, safety glasses - OSHA approved Z87 if applicable, long sleeve shirt, gloves, steel toe boots, etc.).

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs data entry for all purchased material and consumables.
  • Print and distribute POs to appropriate departments.
  • File POs, requisitions, and bid packages.
  • Communicates effectively with other internal departments.
  • Monitors tool room usage.
  • Assists with additional workload in the absence of other teach members or when needed.

Physical Involvement:

Employee may be required to do the following: reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate office equipment; lifting; standing; sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; crawling; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction.

Mental Involvement:

Employee may be required to do the following: following set procedures and standards; applying basic mathematical skills; planning work and selecting proper tools; comparing and understanding differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects; picturing and evaluating solid objects from drawing or diagrams using standards that can be measured or checked; following oral and/or written directions, plans and blueprints; reading; writing; ability to recognize and report safety hazards.

Work Environment Factors:

  • Location: industrial construction sites and/or fabrication shop.
  • Mobility Barriers to Access Job Site: uneven ground levels; obstructed pathways; work performed at low and/or high elevations; work performed in confined areas.
  • Climatic/Environmental Conditions at Job Site: predominantly indoor climate but may be exposed to extreme hot or cold weather, excessive humidity, rain, etc.; various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc.; potential exposure to chemical substances.

Miscellaneous Requirements:

There will be times that the individual may be required to perform a task other than their normal operation required by the company or the foreman, owing to the job demand.
