Job Description

Are you ready to be a vital part of electrifying Alaska? At Alaska Village Electric Cooperative, we're on a mission to light up the Last Frontier and we are looking for a rockstar to be our Accountant/Plant Accountant.

If you are an Excel wiz, and love sifting and sorting large volumes of data, this is the job for you.We use pivot tables and complex formulas such as embedded if statements daily due to reliance on a legacy software product (we are evaluating software vendors for a possible data migration!).

If you can manage fixed asset maintenance, prepare journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, cash management, and account reconciliations, you could be the Accountant we need. You might thrive in this role if you are detail-oriented and an analytical thinker with a talent for working with financial systems. Utility cooperatives are known for hiring long-term employees - the Controller and CFO each have at least a decade of utility accounting experience and are ready to train you!

AVEC is a member-driven generation and distribution utility serving residents in 59 locations throughout rural Alaska with its headquarters in Anchorage, Alaska. The communities that Alaska Village Electric Cooperative serves receive power via small, isolated grids that utilize diesel generation and renewable resources. We are unlike any other utility in the world.

The Accountant/Plant Accountant reports to the CFO and provides support to ensure adequate internal controls and efficiency of procedures and processes within the Accounting department. As our Accountant/Plant Accountant, 75% of your time is spent closing Construction and Retirement Work Orders and create and maintain Fixed Assets. Then 25% of time you will review transactions and batches posted by Accounting Clerk and Specialist; support month-end close and account analysis with detailed account analysis, journal entries, and G/L account reconciliations; review invoice packets and request for payment (600 payments per month); review trip expense reports and calculate per diem amounts; and assist with annual inventory and obsolete inventory processes. You will be expected to demonstrate active knowledge of GAAP in daily execution of functions and tasks and cross-train to provide backup to both the Accounting Specialist and Controller.

Currently, all Work Orders are tracked in paper folders, but we would like to digitize the workflow process.
