POSITION PURPOSE:


Under the direction of the Operations Manager, assume full responsibility for the operations of the Fitness Center during shifts worked on weeknights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:


Oversee Fitness Center Operations

  • Responsible for all Fitness Center operations during shifts worked on weeknights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays
  • Assist Operations Manager with disciplinary actions of patrons
  • Direct and motivate all employees during shifts worked to ensure a high level of customer service and work performance
  • Assist Security when needed
  • Assist managers and supervisors in disciplining employees when necessary
  • Attend in-service meetings
  • Implement policies and procedures established by Department Managers, making exceptions when needed and suggesting changes when necessary
  • Assist with the scheduling and coordination of facilities

Responsible for the safety and efficient operation of the Fitness Center by working with Managers to ensure the following are carried out:

  • Make additions and/or reductions to the daily staff as needed
  • Set up, monitor, and cleanup of private parties/group rentals
  • Ensure that all programs are occurring as desired
  • Report on the performance of groups who rent the Facility
  • Ensure that program registration is occurring efficiently
  • Report all disciplinary issues to the Manager or Supervisor who directly supervises the employee

Ensure the professional atmosphere of the Fitness Center

  • Ensure that all employees are acting professionally and dressed in proper uniform
  • Handle patron complaints and/or comments as they arise
  • Maintain positive public relations for the Fitness Center
  • Help keep the Fitness Center clean and uncluttered

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Two years’ experience in a supervisory role
  • Must hold, or be able to obtain within 60 days of hire, certification in the following: Standard First Aid, CPR / AED For The Professional Rescuer and Emergency Oxygen Administration, through a certifying agency approved by the District
  • Must hold, or be able to obtain within 60 days of hire, a Food Handler Permit
  • Excellent public relations skills
  • Strong leadership/supervisory skills
  • Ability to stay calm and work under stressful conditions
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Willingness to assist others
  • Ability to relate well with supervisors, subordinates, co-workers, and the general public
  • Ability to function as a team player


Desired Qualifications:


  • Additional years of work experience in related field
  • Experience in public relations
  • Background in recreation/Aquatic facility management
  • Lifeguard Certification


WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Willing and available to work on evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Moderate physical activity such as lifting, pulling, pushing, stooping, crouching, bending, etc.
  • Exposure to a few disagreeable elements
  • Work both inside and outside being subject to extreme or uneven temperatures
  • Exposure to stressful situations as a result of human behavior
