Position Title: Brake Press Operator

Location: St. Charles, MO

Schedule: 2nd Shift 2pm - 12:30am (4-Days/10-Hour Shift)

Position Summary:

Brake Press Operators are expected to utilize mechanical skills to assist in the manufacture and build of a variety of unique products such as custom designed displays, trailers, and vehicles to meet project specifications and established timelines. Strong focus on workplace safety and product quality is essential to be successful in this role.

The Brake Press Operator position is responsible for the daily set-up and operation of Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) press brake in a just-in-time fabrication shop. Additionally, produce stainless steel, aluminum, or steel parts to specifications of shop drawings and independently set up and operate the brake press to bend metal plates and/or sheet metal to blueprint or sketch specifications.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Individually sets up and/or programs brake press/laser machines in accordance with specified guidelines.
  • Operate the laser to cut parts for fabrication.
  • Reads blueprint or sketch to form to specifications.
  • Selects, positions, and aligns dies in machine ram and bed, rule, square, or templates.
  • Sets specified pressure of ram and clearance between dies to thickness of metal.
  • Positions work piece to align layout marks to dies.
  • Operates break press machine activating ram that bends the metal work piece.
  • Checks to make sure each work piece is bent or cut to specifications.
  • Meet established timelines according to project plans.
  • Adheres to departmental quality standards.
  • Maintains a tidy work environment with focus on workplace safety.
  • Assist and train coworkers with assigned work duties, when needed.

Required Skills:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 4+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 2 + years of experience with Press Brake Set-up, Programming and Operation.
  • Must possess following skill sets:
  • Mechanical Aptitude
  • Read and understand engineering drawings
  • Read tape measure and protractor
  • Use air and electric hand tools
  • Ability to solve simple issues and learn the job quickly
  • Must be able to use and maintain brake press, laser and shear equipment.
  • Must be able to train other employees on brake press and laser equipment.
  • Knowledgeable of brake press computer programing and laser operation.
  • Must be safety conscious with good housekeeping skills.
  • Ability to learn to operate forklift and a crane.
  • Strong attention to detail and precision.
  • Ability to work successfully within a team and as an individual contributor.
  • Must effectively communicate and present interpretations of work.
  • Displays initiative to learn and to take on more responsibilities.
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards team members and other departments.

Preferred Skills:

  • 4 years' experience with metal fabrication and/or CNC operations.
  • Prior experience with operating a crane.

Physical Requirements:

Physically able to stand up to 8+ hours per day.

Must be able to lift/carry up to 55 -75 lbs.

Must be able to stand, walk, sit, stoop, squat, balance, and reach overhead.

Ability to work in various environments and weather conditions.
