Water Treatment System Operator / Part-Time

Broadbent & Associates, Inc. of Vail, Colorado is looking to hire an organized, part-time Water Treatment System Operator to support operation of water treatment systems at a former mine site, approximately eight miles southwest of Vail. The water treatment system includes a lime precipitation process and on-site sludge disposal. This position earns between $25.30/hour - $33.80/hour, depending on certifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM OPERATOR

You will support operation of the water treatment plant and conveyance system at a former zinc mine located in Eagle County, Colorado. The water treatment plant is a lime-based treatment system designed to collect and treat acid rock drainage (ARD) from on-site groundwater seeps and the mine pool. Additional activities include the operation and maintenance of the water conveyance system and routine inspections around the site. The selected candidate will operate the water treatment systems during the weekends initially (20 hours per week). Modifications to the schedule may occur upon achieving proficiency in operations.

Water Treatment System Operator duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Complete safety training and technician/operator training
  • Assist in completing daily paperwork/documentation
  • System operations, optimization, and monitoring (including remote monitoring)
  • Perform and document system inspections
  • Measure field parameters and collect compliance and discharge water samples
  • Evaluate sludge characteristics and deposit sludge into the onsite repository
  • Assist in system troubleshooting and repairs
  • Perform system maintenance tasks
  • Oversee lime, fuel, flocculent, muriatic acid, and water deliveries
  • Perform routine sampling
  • Maintain site safety and field logs
  • Assist in the preparation of operation status and periodic reports
  • Assist with operations and maintenance of the water conveyance system
  • Conduct routine security inspections across the site
  • Embrace and support a safe work environment
  • Stop work as necessary to prevent incidents or impact to the environment

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM OPERATOR

  • Colorado Class D Industrial Wastewater certification preferred, but not required
  • Clean driving record as determined by our insurance carrier in order to drive company vehicles
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience
  • Interest in water treatment and environmental assessment/remediation
  • Strong mechanical/technical skills
  • Experience working with valves/piping, pumps, generators, system controls, and sampling equipment
  • Self-starter, quick learner, and effective communicator
  • Strong attention to detail and safety
  • Water and/or Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification preferred, but not required.
  • HAZWOPER training certification is preferred but can be provided if necessary
  • Being based out of Eagle County or Nearby Vicinity is preferred, but not required
  • Candidate must be willing to travel if not located in Eagle County
