Geotemps, Inc. is seeking a Drilling Operations Supervisor for an exploration project in Seward the Peninsula of Alaska. The Drilling Operations Supervisor is tasked with overseeing drilling operations as well as supervising the construction of access roads and drill sites, including managing heavy equipment and operators involved in earthworks. The Drilling Operations Supervisor reports to the Operations Manager. This is a rotation schedule of 30 days on 15 days off. Transportation to the site will be provided. This is a remote camp position, where housing and food will be covered for employees during their working rotation.
Responsibilities:
  1. Drilling Supervision: Oversee all aspects of drilling operations, ensuring projects are executed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with project objectives and regulatory requirements.
  2. Road Construction and Site Preparation: Supervise the construction of access roads and preparation of drill sites, coordinating the use of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, backhoes, and graders.
  3. Equipment and Team Management: Manage and direct heavy equipment operators and drilling personnel, ensuring optimal performance, adherence to safety standards, and timely project execution.
  4. Project Coordination: Collaborate with the Operations Manager to align drilling and civil works with the overall project plan, adjusting strategies as necessary to meet project timelines and objectives.
  5. Safety and Compliance: Enforce rigorous safety protocols and environmental compliance on-site, conducting regular inspections and safety meetings to mitigate risks and ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations.
  6. Performance Monitoring: Monitor the progress of drilling and civil works, analyzing performance data to identify issues and implement corrective actions to maintain project schedules and quality standards.
  7. Budget Management: Oversee budgeting for drilling and civil works activities, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation and financial tracking.
  8. Client Communication: Serve as a primary point of contact for internal and external project Clients, providing updates, and reports, and addressing concerns related to drilling and civil works.
  9. Briefing and Development: Conduct briefing sessions for drilling and heavy equipment teams to ensure they are proficient in operational procedures, safety practices, and equipment use.
  10. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of drilling and civil works activities, including reports on progress, incidents, and compliance, for review by the Operations Manager and other stakeholders.
Skills:
  1. Experience in supervising construction projects, particularly in road construction and site preparation for drilling activities. Expertise in managing heavy equipment operations and teams.
  2. Strong leadership and organizational skills; expertise in drilling techniques and heavy equipment operation; proficiency in safety and compliance management; excellent communication and problem-solving abilities; adept at budgeting and resource management.
  3. Highly detail-oriented with a proactive approach to safety and risk management; capable of multitasking and prioritizing in a fast-paced environment; strong analytical and decision-making skills; committed to continuous improvement and learning.
  4. Ability to successfully complete post-offer background check, reference check, drug screening, and physical.
Qualifications:
  1. A Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or a related Geoscience field
  2. A minimum of 3 years geological experience in exploration projects.
  3. Knowledge of drilling processes, earthmoving equipment, and civil construction techniques.
  4. Familiarity with industry-specific software for project management and drilling operations.
  5. A willingness to work in varied outdoor environments and adapt to changing project needs.
  6. Available for travel based on project locations and operational requirements.
Environmental & Physical Requirements:
  1. Ability to work a 12-hour shift.
  2. Ability to lift and carry 55lbs regularly.
  3. Ability to work in temperatures that range from extreme lows with the potential of inclement weather including snow or rain or high winds.
  4. Ability to constantly walk, push, pull, stand, sit, squat, crawl, kneel, or reach for extended periods on muddy, dusty, or uneven ground.
  5. Ability to wear and possess Personal Protective Equipment that includes a reflective vest, steel-toed or safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses or goggles, and hearing protection.
