  • Director of Nursing, DON (Registered Nurse, RN) is responsible to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility. Ensure that the highest degree of quality resident care is always maintained.
  • Director of Nursing, DON (Registered Nurse, RN) is also responsible for the execution of resident care policies and procedures and the coordination of the Nursing department with other departments.
  • Advise and consult with Administrator regarding nursing administration and resident care issues.
  • Director of Nursing, DON (Registered Nurse, RN) is responsible for facility operations in the absence of the Administrator
  • Evaluate nursing needs and interview, hire, and schedule personnel as needed to ensure adequate provision of nursing care to residents.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve departmental and personnel problems. In the event of an emergency, may assume Supervisor duties. Supervise and evaluate work performance of personnel, with assistance of supervisory staff.
  • Assist nurses in assessing and developing care plans for individual residents in compliance with regulations and standards of nursing practice.
  • Establish administration procedures and controls of medications under the direction of the Medical Director and Pharmacy Consultant. Participate in the facility Pharmacy Committee.
  • Provide for consultation with residents and representatives regarding resident care concerns.
  • Coordinate and direct all aspects of facility abuse prohibition protocol, to include investigating concerns, observing for inappropriate practices, coordinating training of staff, and reporting to the Administrator and regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in the establishment and review of the facility fire, disaster, infection control, and safety programs in cooperation with Administration and other departments.
  • Maintain required records and reviews, updates, and revises policies, procedures, job descriptions, and other programs to meet current objectives, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Oversee the Resident Assessment and MDS process, to ensure that all requirements are followed related to scheduling and completion of the MDS, implementation of CAA’s, and development and revision of the resident comprehensive care plan. Promote public relations and liaison with other facilities, physicians, vendors, and the public.
Requirements:
  • Wound Care Certification & SigmaCare experience a plus!
  • Supervisory or managerial experience in a hospital or preferably nursing home, long-term care (LTC), skilled nursing facility (SNF), and/or sub-acute rehabilitation setting. Experience in management within a geriatric skilled nursing setting highly preferred.
  • Must be a graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • MDS experience and PRI certification preferred.
  • Must have a current registration in New York State as a RN in good standing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred OR minimum five (5) years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Ability to work cohesively with residents, families, and staff from various departments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and be flexible.
