The Front End Assistant Manager assists in all aspects of Front End operations, including hiring, training, scheduling and supervising Front End staff. Under the direction of the Front End Manager, the Front End Assistant Manager is responsible for overseeing the retail readiness program, ensuring a positive customer experience through retail readiness monitoring. The Front End Assistant Manager develops and maintains all customer experience program materials and works with department staff to ensure that practices are effective and clearly communicated. The Front End Assistant Manager’s shift may include retail readiness tasks, troubleshooting technology and pricing issues, resolving customer questions and complaints, facilitating the movement of cash throughout the store, opening or closing the store as scheduled, and performing cashier duties as needed.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists Front End Manager in all aspects of the Front End department

  • Assists with developing and implementing SOPs and training plans for the Front End Department
  • Works with Front End Manager in executing and maintaining department expectations, prioritizing safety and following guidelines for customer service.
  • Organizes the schedule and daily activity to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency

Oversees training and development of the retail readiness program

  • Develops and maintains the retail readiness program with the Front End Manager
  • Coordinates with department managers to develop the retail readiness report and maintain accountability
  • Monitors store, observing aesthetic, safety, and sanitation according to Co-op standards for retail readiness
  • Communicates with department leadership to address areas of concern in order to meet expectations
  • Works with department leadership to confirm tasks noted on readiness report are complete

Ensures the smooth functioning of the Front End Department through the shift

  • Provides supervision and support to cashiers and Front End shift leads by assisting with customer service and process adherence, training others in department functions when directed by the Front End Manager
  • Troubleshoots technology and pricing issues and resolves customer questions and complaints in a way that aligns with Co-op standards for customer service, asset protection, and staff treatment
  • Facilitates cash movement through the store by completing bank orders, safe counts, and change orders according to established standards for security and accuracy

Acts as a part of the Front End team to uphold safety, customer service, and asset protection standards

  • Performs cashier tasks as scheduled, modeling leadership by upholding department standards for assigned tasks
  • Participates as a member of the team, is proactive in approaching issues, and promptly course-corrects when necessary, following appropriate paths for sharing challenges and making recommendations
  • Maintains a strong awareness of the Front End department function and addresses issues promptly and appropriately, following store-wide standards for safety, documentation, performance coaching, and incident reporting when called for.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS (knowledge, skills, and abilities)

Preferred:

  • Experience with POS and spreadsheet programs sufficient to communicate and prepare reports with accuracy, and in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of ECRS Catapult
  • Experience with natural foods co-ops

Minimum:

  • Supervisory experience in a retail setting
  • Experience handling cash
  • Experience using a Point of Sale (POS) system
  • Demonstrated ability to perform customer service in person and over the phone
  • Problem-solving skills, including assessing complex situations, determining action steps, and communicating evolving plans to a varied audience
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Experience with Google Suite, including Docs, Gmail, and Sheets
  • Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive tasks
