CLX Engineering seeks a motivated Integration/Automation Engineer with a keen interest in utilizing AutoCAD for electrical control panels. As an integral member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing electrical schematics and designs for various projects. This role requires collaboration with project managers and engineering team members to ensure the accuracy and completeness of drawings throughout the project life cycle.


Reporting to the Manager, Controls Engineering, this is a salaried position that will also be responsible programmable logic controls troubleshooting/editing and entry level design. Ideal candidates will have prior experience working as Controls Field Technician and have a strong desire to become proficient programming PLCs, especially Allen Bradley and Siemens, from scratch.


While this is a level one salaried engineer, this position is not suitable for candidates who do not have some experience working in industrial automation wiring panels, working with AutoCAD and a strong proficiency reading electrical schematics, or again, working as a Controls Field Technician troubleshooting and editing code in client sites.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Design power distribution, emergency-stop, and logic control schematics using CAD software, particularly AutoDesk AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Design motor control panel layouts using standard design practices and UL508A standards.
  • Design assemblies for field devices to include (control stations, Stack Lights, Remote IO panels, Remote VFD enclosures, ect.)
  • Create comprehensive network architecture diagrams and generate detailed bill of materials.
  • Manage block library and drawing templates to streamline the drafting process.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers and engineering teams to address drafting requirements and participate actively in design reviews.
  • Complete comprehensive drawing package reviews for accuracy and quality
  • Oversee drawings throughout the project life cycle to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Support the implementation of control systems through interpretation of customer-supplied control descriptions, interviews with clients and owners, analysis of system mechanical requirements, and any other means necessary to create a functional software design.
  • Write structured, well-documented, bug-free PLC code under the supervision of senior engineering personnel.
  • Execute systematic, in-house testing (FAT) prior to on-site commissioning and provide on-site system commissioning support as required. This support may require overtime or be on off hours.
  • Expand current technical skillset including attending seminars, formal classroom training, project experience, etc. Tangible demonstration of professional development is a requirement at annual reviews. Demonstrate a willingness to initiate and be self-sufficient in learning new skills.

Requirements:

Required and Desired Skills:

  • Experience working with electrical systems design with a BS in Electrical Technologies or an AS degree in a similar field.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoDesk, AutoCAD Electrical, and AutoCAD, with basic knowledge of AutoCAD software required.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat Editor, Microsoft Office Suite, and Click Up.
  • Strong graphic design skills and ability to quickly understand complex applications.
  • Basic PLC programming skills (Allen Bradley preferred), focusing on ladder logic, with a willingness to become more proficient.
  • Experience with automation, material handling, and control enclosures preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with excellent teamwork abilities.
  • A curious, learning mindset and a strong willingness to continually improve technical skills.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to spend extended time in an industrial environment.
  • Occasional travel required (up to approximately 50% annually) with at times to include last-minute travel for emergency situations.
  • Ability to adjust schedule to work nights or days based on project needs.
