Job Description
The successful candidate will possess a solid foundation in accounting principles and practices as well as a working understanding and utilization of business intelligence analysis and tools.
The person in this role will be involved in everything from preparing journal entries and financial statements to analysis and presentation of recommendations to improve team, department, and company performance. You will work directly with leadership providing help with the development and evolution of our accounting system, data extraction and analysis, general ledger account reconciliation, month-end close responsibilities, cash transactions, and improvement of our organizational processes and procedures to gain efficiency and provide value to internal and external customers.
You must be a self-starter who enjoys working in a dynamic environment. The position is responsible for supporting the accounting and finance functions including general accounting, financial planning & analysis, internal controls, and management reporting. You will report directly to and will collaborate closely with the Controller and CFO.
Responsibilities
Active participant in monthly close and production of monthly internal and external financial statements for multiple companies.
Develop reporting and forecasting tools for more efficient use of data.
Produce well-documented, timely and accurate work product, including account reconciliations, journal entries, accounting reviews and recurring and ad-hoc reporting.
Perform twice-weekly system integration between maintenance and accounting systems.
Participate in, and at times, lead process improvement projects to improve efficiencies, expand capabilities and improve overall service levels to the organization.
Utilize advanced financial/accounting experience to analyze complex financial data and trends.
Perform cash management transactions as needed.
Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data posted in the GL.
Provide support and, as needed, leadership to other members of the accounting team.
Participate in special projects, team training, team building and development.
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Mature, seasoned, creative and proactive accountant / financial analyst / business data analyst with 8+ years of progressive experience and demonstrated excellence in finances, accounting, budgeting, controls, analysis, projecting, and reporting,
CPA preferred but not required.
Transportation experience preferred but not required.
Experience working in a multi-company environment with understanding of intercompany activity and consolidations.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting / finance
Strong proficiency in Power BI, and Microsoft Product Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), with advanced + skills in Excel
Strong analytical toolkit that makes use of business intelligence and reporting software.
Demonstrated strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively.
Strong ability to take the initiative and drive for results.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
