As the PIO, you'll strategically use social media, video, and graphics to educate the public and tell MCDOT's story about providing connections that improve people's lives. The PIO is a skilled writer with the ability to take complex information and produce easy-to-understand materials. You are also creative, innovative, collaborative, and embrace customer service. As the PIO, you will also serve as a media spokesperson for department-wide matters.

We Require
One year of experience in public relations
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Administration or a closely related field
A combination of post-secondary education and/orjob-related experience may substitute for theminimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

Experience working in a transportation/government environment
Experience working with communication email platforms, including the ability to write and edit basic HTML code
Video scripting, filming, editing, and producing
Experience with desktop publishing using Adobe Creative Suite
Experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Job Contributions
Social Media: develop strategies and plans for social media channels/platforms; create and schedule content; manage social media calendar, monitor comments and respond when appropriate; develop strategies to grow following; report on engagement metrics
Writing: take technical, engineering, and technology information and transform it into interesting, easy-to-understand materials; produce presentations, scripts, articles, talking points, and speeches
Media Relations: serve as a representative for department-wide media inquiries for MCDOT. Build and maintain relationships with media outlets and develop media campaigns as needed
External Communications: conceptualize, write, and execute communications plans for MCDOT external initiatives, campaigns, and programs for a broad range of audiences and stakeholders using communications tactics such as written materials, presentations, social media, special events, articles, letters, press releases, talking points, and website content
Content creation: serve as primary content creator for MCDOT webpages by working collaboratively with subject matter experts to ensure content is current. Collaborate with the webmaster to ensure excellent customer experience
Event Planning: Served as lead for public, non-project-related special events to include logistics and AV
Graphical standards: work within the department's and Maricopa County's graphics and photography standards to ensure consistency of design and photography standards for the department for external presentations produced by employees
Customer Service: provide customer service to project hotline, Notify MCDOT inquiries, and email. Participate in after-hours and on-call rotation for emergency communication needs
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in a business office setting
Occasional travel to other local jurisdictions may be required
May be required to attend events outside of normal working hours and participate in on-call rotation to cover after-hour emergencies
May be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
Must possess or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona driver's license and have an acceptable driving record
Ability to exert 20-25 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly
