DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In your role, you will oversee medical procedures related to thoroughbred or standardbred racing. Your responsibilities will include supervising the Bleeder Medication Program and test barn activities, as well as providing regulatory veterinary expertise at racetracks. Additionally, you will be responsible for administering programs under the Bureau of Animal Health and Diagnostic Services. This will involve ensuring compliance with laws and regulations mandated by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture in order to effectively monitor and control animal diseases in the region. Your expertise and supervision will play a crucial role in maintaining the health and safety of animals involved in racing activities. By upholding regulatory standards and implementing necessary programs, you will contribute to the overall well-being of the animals and the integrity of the racing industry.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • This is a vendor-controlled position, meaning work schedules are subject to change based on the racing schedule.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of farm animal and/or poultry practice experience as a USDA accredited veterinarian.


Special Requirement:

  • Possession of a license to practice veterinary medicine as issued by a state board of veterinary medical examiners.


Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
