DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a County Social Services Aide 2 with Schuylkill County Children and Youth, you will work under general supervision and provide support to client families and professional case management staff. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing training, referral, and support services for clients, primarily transportation to medical and dental appointments, foster homes, or other facilities.
  • Supervising the attendance and monitoring the behavior of children during appointments and visits.
  • Collaborating with case management staff and supervisors by providing observations and feedback about client and family progress toward meeting established goals and objectives.
  • Receiving phone calls concerning emergency situations and providing active listening to clients in crisis until calls can be referred to a professional worker or supervisor.
  • Participating in training and professional development programs to develop your program knowledge and skills.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a County Social Services Aide 1; or
  • Graduation from high school, or its equivalency, and two years of experience in public contact work in a human services agency which included one year of experience in interviewing and obtaining information; or
  • An associate's degree in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Carbon, Columbia, Lebanon, Luzerne, Northumberland, and Schuylkill counties. If no eligible candidates who live within these counties apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
