CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time/Exempt


BENEFITS: 10% YMCA Retirement, Family Program Fees, Free Day Camp, Health Insurance, Paid Time Off


SALARY RANGE: $64,826 - $97,239


POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the VP of Program, the Director of Spiritual Life develops, plans and implements religious and spiritual growth activities for the Silver Bay community.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Chaplain, Spiritual Life Assistant


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Defines a vision for the Spiritual Life Department that embraces the past Christian heritage of Silver Bay YMCA and sets the course for its future.
  2. Organizes and regularly leads worship and sacramental services, as baptisms, weddings, memorial services, interments, etc.
  3. Develops and implements year-round spiritual programs for guests, members, and staff, such as Bible studies, devotions, labyrinth walks, meditation hikes, vesper services, hymnal sings, tent classes, prayer gatherings, etc.
  4. Directs all programmatic aspects of the Pastoral Respite Ministry.
  5. Collaborates with staff to plan development of skills needed to program the department.
  6. Works with Marketing, Conference Services and the Program Department to heighten awareness of and to customize program offerings for groups, such as family reunions.
  7. Partners with Marketing to recruit youth and other spiritual groups to participate in programming via the Ministry Network.
  8. Collaborates with Conference Services and Program Departments to implement customized programming, such as family reunions.
  9. Fosters collaboration with churches and communities of faith in the local area, including but not limited to Hague, Ticonderoga, Bolton Landing, and Putnam.
  10. Provides pastoral care and spiritual direction to guests and staff.
  11. Maintains records, prepares reports pertaining to programs.
  12. Performs other duties, as requested.
  13. As a 24-hour operation, all staff may be asked to work weekends, evenings, night shifts and/or holidays in order to serve our members, guests, and program participants.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in theology, religious education or a related field is required; Masters of Divinity is preferred.
  • Must be ordained as a minister or hold license as a minister.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the balance between an ecumenical mission and the open and inclusive nature of the YMCA.
  • Must have 5-10 years of experience serving in a YMCA or other para-church organization.
  • Must have demonstrated spiritual gifts of discernment mercy, humility and integrity; strong servant leadership skills are a must.
  • The equivalent combination of education, training and related experience may be considered.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills; must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups of people representing all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills are needed; ability to protect confidential information.
  • Experienced user of computer systems and applications such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires the ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. Other physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
