Food Services Planning Assistant - Payette School District

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Assist in the coordination, planning, organization, and monitoring of the food service operations and nutritional programs
  • Provide general information and assistance to the public
  • Performs a wide variety of secretarial and routine administrative duties in support of the Food Service Department

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Maintains highest level of confidentiality related to Meal Application Processing and Student Accounts, and other items deemed necessary in an administrative setting.

• Perform a variety of responsible secretarial and clerical duties to support the Food Service Director; assist in the coordination in planning, organizing, and coordinating activities as assigned.

• Perform a variety of duties using a computer in daily work activities; update and maintain a variety of records and reports. Create spreadsheets and run reports using products such as Google documents, Microsoft Excel, Infinite Campus, and Titan School Solutions software.

• Perform general clerical work including filing, typing letters and record keeping.

• Assist the Director in educating staff in Child Nutrition Programs.

• Process student meal applications and monitor student eligibility as needed.

• Monitor the Child Nutrition Programs using state required monitoring review forms.

• Oversee kitchen staff in all Child Nutrition Programs in meal patterns, production, inventory, and ordering.

• Maintain Inventory in school warehouse and deliver to kitchens once a week.

• Ensure proper procurement of all purchases (food and non-food items).

• Accurately maintain warehouse inventory in inventory management software. Perform inventory monthly counts. Oversee kitchens inventory and correct as needed.

• Take after hour phones for emergency alarms for all schools and warehouse, freezers, coolers, and alarms.

• Keep current on all laws, rules, and regulations, and District policies, rules, and regulations.

• Assist in the coordination, planning organization and monitoring of the food service operations and nutritional program at schools to assure efficient and sanitary practices in food preparation and serving.

• Review food costs for adequate procurement, purchasing invoices and other related invoices; ensure delivery as ordered, correct amount as charged.

• Requires travel to school nutrition meetings, training, and annual conferences.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty efficiently and effectively. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill and ability required.

  • Language Skills: Ability to read, understand and follow written and oral directions; present information clearly to supervisor, students, district employees or the public.
  • Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using units of weight and volume measurement. Bookkeeping and accounting skills with reasonable degree of proficiency.
  • Effectively and efficiently perform responsible clerical, secretarial, technical, and administrative functions, and activities.
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Work independently with little direction, meeting schedules and deadlines.
  • Assist in sending out monthly invoices for meal charges, letters, and lunch applications.
  • Read, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficient in google operating systems including shared drives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft products such as excel, word, power point. Proficient in Google products.
  • Type or keyboard at a net corrected speed of 40 words per minute.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all administrators, staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have a valid driver license.
  • Have regular and predictable attendance.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Child Nutrition

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, and experience in a child nutrition related field.

Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible clerical experience. Any combination equivalent training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge abilities listed above and at least four years previous experience in child nutrition in a school related environment.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:

A valid Idaho Driver’s License

The physical abilities described here are those that must be met by an employee to successfully carry out the essential functions of this job.

Persons performing service in this position must lift up to 50 lbs., carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

• This type of work involves sitting, standing, lifting, and moving most of the time, but may involve walking for brief periods.

• Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate technical/business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.

• Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job.

This position is permanent and full-time and includes the Summer Lunch Program. Supervisory and emergency conditions should be expected which will require immediate attention regardless of schedule, day and/or time.

A high degree of coordination and a variety of decisions with attention to detail in a fast-paced ever-changing environment is paramount.

Proficiency in the use of general accepted accounting practices. Strong communication skills and use of proper spelling and grammar is required. Ability to apply for grants. Responsible for making accurate reports.

Technological expertise in software, equipment and applications.

Responsible for adhering to health department standards and state and federal audit guidelines.

Moderate physical activity will be encountered, i.e., pushing, pulling, and lifting medium weights.
