Summary

Under limited supervision, the service technician performs work of considerable difficulty in the repair and maintenance of heavy construction equipment; performs related work as assigned.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Follow directions of the assistant service manager and service manager in a safe and timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly shop and service truck.
  • Attend schools/training as related to job requirements.
  • Responsible for check in and check out of all rental equipment.
  • Prompt completion of time cards and stories in order to allow for proper billing of time on work orders.
  • Submission of parts requisition and returns when necessary to complete work as assigned.
  • Able to travel to a village in the state of Alaska and trouble shoot and repair any type of equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and electrical systems on construction equipment.
  • Able to read and understand parts and service manuals to recommend repairs of equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair all aspect of heavy construction equipment in any condition at any location.

Education and Experience

  • Within the last 10 years:
    • Five years’ experience and/or training in heavy equipment repair and maintenance
    • Or any Combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

 

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

Job Type: Full Time

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shift
  • Monday to Friday, weekend rotation

  • Maintain Clean Community Shared area/Steam clean equipment Customer and Rental Fleet.
  • Assist Service Technician when directed by the Shop Foreman.
  • Coordinate and Organize Company Tool Room
  • Complete Manufacturers’ Online Training Courses as Assigned
  • Small Tool Repair.

 

Service Tech 1 – Individual in training to become a Service Technician 2.

  • Over 5 years’ heavy equipment experience or 3 years’ Apprentice Program
    • Hydraulic
    • Diesel Engine
    • Manufacturers’ Software Proficiencies
  • Field/Shop Customer Repair
  • Instructor led classes as assigned

 

Service Tech 2 – Individual who exceeds Service Tech 1 Standards and Specializes in a given Manufacturer’s Elite Training Program.

  • 7 years’ heavy equipment experience.
  • 2 years’ consecutive on Volvo Training Program or other Manufacturer’s Program
  • Complete Manufacturers’ Online Training Courses as Assigned
  • Excels in technical ability, attitude and responding to the customer’s needs.
  • Mentors an Apprentice

 

Service Tech 3 – Individual who exceeds Service Tech 2 and specializes in multiple lines that CMI services.

  • 10 years’ heavy equipment experience.
  • Can fill in as Assistant Service Manager as and when needed.
  • Excels in troubleshooting and can assist others in troubleshooting.
  • Excels in at least three product lines and can repair all aspect of product.
  • Willing to work out of branch for extended periods of times.
  • Excels in technical ability, attitude and present himself or herself in a professional manner to the customer’s needs.
  • Complete Manufacturers’ Online Training Courses as Assigned
  • Mentors an Apprentice or Tech 1 Yearly as assigned
