Staff Geologist

We are seeking a motivated and passionate Staff Geologist to join our Civil-Geo-Environmental team in Columbus, Ohio. Are you ready to contribute your education and knowledge to meaningful projects? Join us at S&ME!


Your Day-to-Day:

  • Hydrogeological Investigations and Environmental Evaluations: Conduct field and office work related to hydrogeological investigations and environmental evaluations, such as drilling soil borings, installing monitor wells, classifying soil and rock, performing in-situ permeability testing, and collecting soil, groundwater, and gas samples for chemical analysis.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Prepare data tables, create graphical data presentations, compare soil and groundwater data to State and Federal regulatory standards, and assist in report preparation.
  • Drawing Preparation: Use AutoCAD to prepare drawings.
  • Construction and Environmental Inspections: Conduct construction and environmental inspections, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and project requirements. Communicate effectively with vendors, as well as internal and external clients, to address any concerns or issues that arise during inspections.

Your Impact:

As a Staff Geologist, you play a crucial role in supporting a wide range of civil, geotechnical, and environmental design projects for Energy, Industrial, and Government clients. Your work directly contributes to the successful completion of projects involving nuclear facilities, reservoirs, dams, pipelines, transmission lines, landfills, mining operations, stormwater management, erosion control, and stream stabilization. By conducting thorough hydrogeological investigations, environmental evaluations, and inspections, you help ensure that projects meet regulatory requirements and are executed safely and efficiently. Your attention to detail, strong work ethic, and ability to collaborate as part of a team are essential in delivering high-quality results that meet the needs of our clients.


What You Bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Geology or a closely related field
  • 1-5 years of Geology experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic familiarity with AutoCAD
  • Eligible for the Professional Geologist (PG) license within 3 years
  • GIS experience, a plus

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Traveling out-of-town (may include overnight) for assignments as necessary.
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary.
