Shift: 2nd Shift (3pm - 11:30pm Monday - Friday)

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Tool Shop Manager supports all process related activities and functions to build extrusion tooling systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create machining programs using company provided CAD/CAM software. Set-up, check programs and operate all CNC machining equipment to meet precise tolerances and finishes.
  • Responsible for using the CAD/CAM software and machine controller for programming, setup and operation of the vertical machining centers.
  • Download, set-up and check programs prior to operating CNC machines in order to meet precise tolerances and finishes.
  • Assist Tool Room and manufacturing with any machining requirements and tool repairs as necessary. Set-up and prepare tooling per wire EDM machining requirements.
  • Build and finish to blueprint specification: die components, fixtures, production equipment and machinery components while maintaining precision tolerances and desired finish.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by the position’s Lead or supervisor.
  • Do any required light maintenance on Vertical Machining Center per manufacturer’s requirements.
  • Participate in activities to assist in ensuring safe working conditions for facility employees.

Supervisory Responsibilities: NONE

Skills, Qualifications, Education and/or Relevant Experience:

  • Ability to comprehend blueprints and schematics relating to tooling, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Working knowledge of tool room equipment, including but not limited to: Bridgeport mills, lathes, surface grinders, vertical machining centers and other ancillary equipment.
  • Working knowledge of CNC/NC programming and AD CAM systems is required.
  • Math competency in basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
  • Understanding of tool steel selection process and application.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to use precision measuring equipment including dial indicators, calipers, and micrometers. Prefer knowledge on use of technical measuring equipment such as coordinate measuring machine and optical comparators.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; high degree of initiative; ability to work effectively both alone and with others.
  • Technical school; or two/three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Displays consistent desire to do more than is asked to help coordinate processes in order to get the job done.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and time sensitive work that can change rapidly.
  • Must be able to work while standing for long periods.
  • Be able to lift and move heavy (70 lbs.) equipment and supplies.
  • Able to work all shifts as needed.
