Job Purpose

The Field Engineer's primary responsibility is to provide support to the Project Manager and Superintendent in the management and execution of assigned contracts through all phases of construction including planning/project startup, construction, and post construction/ project closeout.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation of and attend project startup meetings including Project Handoff Meeting with Estimating Department, Pre-Construction Meeting with Owner, and Pre-Construction Meeting with Unions.
  • Prepare Subcontracts and Purchase Orders under supervision of Project Manager.
  • Distribute Project Plans, Specifications, Standard Plans, Job Special Provisions, Phase Listing, Direct Cost Reports, Plan Revisions, etc. and maintain throughout the project.
  • Assist with preparation of Pre-Activity Meetings for larger items of work.
  • Build Daily and/or Weekly Project Schedule and distribute to all required parties, including Owner, Project Team, MW Executives and Operations Departments, etc.
  • Assist with initial development and monthly update of CPM Schedule.
  • Assist Superintendent and Foremen with day-to-day tasks including material procurement, daily project scheduling, survey/layout, etc.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, material suppliers, and vendors as needed to meet project schedule requirements.
  • Coordinate with Owner/ Owner's representative, Inspectors, QC/QA personnel, etc. to schedule testing and/or inspection of work.
  • Coordinate with MW Operations Managers including Survey, Quality Control, Structures, Concrete, Transportation, etc. as needed.
  • Prepare and submit RFI's and Submittals to owner or engineer of record.
  • Attend Progress/ Partnering Meetings with Owner.
  • Enter Subcontract Payments and approve supplier/ vendor invoices.
  • Assist with management of project costs and profitability as directed by Project Manager.
  • Perform new-hire orientations as necessary.
  • Review/ Approve timecards. Enter time if necessary.
  • Assist with project closeout/ final completion tasks including punch-list, final plans, certs, final quantities/ change orders, etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field. Prefer one (1) year of heavy construction experience. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Strong decision making and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and resolve practical problems, keeping all appropriate parties aware of issues or risks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and teamwork mentality.
  • Strong desire to learn and grow as an industry professional under the guidance of superiors/peers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Exposure to or working knowledge of construction industry specific software such as HCSS HeavyJob and/or HeavyBid, Microsoft Project, Primavera, etc. a plus.
  • OSHA 10 Hour / OSHA 30 Hour
  • CPR & First Aid

Other Functions

  • Quality assurance tracking, receiving and reporting.
  • Safety support and planning work with Health and Safety Personnel.
    • Attend and participate in weekly Toolbox Talks
    • Participate in safety inspections/ walkthroughs
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license to drive for the company.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Working from field office(s) and on construction sites. Outside environment, exposure to a variety of hazards typical of construction sites including, but not limited to, moving equipment, uneven terrain, high noise level, traffic, chemicals, and weather/ temperature extremes. Working nights and weekends as necessary. May require temporary relocation depending on project proximity to headquarters.
