We are seeking a Resident Engineer to join our Cisco CX organization to support a major WEB customer in the Seattle Area. You will be providing on-site consultation, technical leadership, and direction, for the customer as well as the Cisco Teams supporting activities such as Planning, Deployment, and Integration as well as support for high visibility issues on Optical NCS1k, NCS2k, NCS4k, IOS-XR, NCS1010, NCS1020, and NCS1014, found in the customer's production network., You will work closely with our Operations Managers, Code Developers / BU primes, Network Consulting Engineers, and field teams to ensure a quick turnaround on very complex issues. You will also provide leadership, direction, and oversight for more junior level Engineers, partnering with them to provide timely resolution to SEV 1 and SEV 2 cases. You will establish and maintain close relationships with the Customer Network Operations Engineers as well as the "network owners" establishing yourself as a trusted partner.

In this role, you will gain insight on the detailed functionality of Cisco products and partner with all distributed elements of the service chain. Additional responsibilities of the role:

  • Demonstrated experience leading Optical and IP infrastructure-related projects.
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills to various levels within Cisco and our Customers.
  • Interfaces with peer Engineers, Architects, and internal engineering departments.
  • Provide Network Problem Resolution and Root-Cause Analysis as per contracted agreement with named customer.
  • Provides systems/product training to internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Provides guidance, mentoring & leadership to new hires and less experienced engineers.
  • Earns the confidence of customers and is able to use the confidence to achieve results.
  • Solves extremely complex problems where analysis requires in-depth evaluation of factors with imaginative and innovative troubleshooting and experimentation as well as evaluation of intangible variables.
  • Is a technical expert in a broad area covering multiple technologies. Applies expected product behavior across industry practices. Knows how the technology is expected to work in the industry.
  • Experience supporting multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Expert level internetworking troubleshooting in a large-scale network environment
  • Collaborates with Engineering / Code Developers on complex product and software issues, driving resolution of software defects.
  • Key involvement in CA and cross-functional teams to resolve major customer issues. Leads team collaboration extending beyond work group.
  • In-depth knowledge of network management, network availability & capacity planning
  • Experience with Scripting, Python, and/or Linux is required to automate workflows where possible, (ex. Deployments and system integration)
  • Ability to Identify and share opportunities, winning use cases, and relevant strategies to our CX teams and Sales teams.

You will be part of Cisco's CX Organization. As mentioned above, you will work very closely with Service Delivery Managers, Sales Engineers, High Touch Operations Managers and SW Developers & Engineers as well as the Service Delivery Executive (SDE) aligned to this WEB customer engagement. This is a customer facing role in the purist sense, you will establish and maintain close relationships and earn the customer's trust. Who You Are First and foremost you enjoy troubleshooting and solving problems, being out front and leading, as well as collaborating with the Services Delivery Manager, Cisco Architects, Engineering, and the Customer on an on-going basis. You also work independently, receiving minimal supervision, with no instruction on routine work and general instruction on new assignments. The ideal candidate demonstrates an aptitude and appetite for learning new technologies, evidenced by the ability to expand upon core knowledge. Our most successful candidates possess the following skills:

  • Capable of covering multiple platforms and work as domain specialist (Cisco ONS-15454, NCS1k/2k)
  • Excellent and in-depth knowledge of Optical technologies, with solid understanding of SONET and DWDM technology
  • Expertise and experience in creating optical networks and upgrades using Cisco Transport Planner (CTP)
  • High-level support, analysis, and diagnosis for sophisticated, optical network deployments
  • Strong networking knowledge, sufficient enough to understand customer solutions, topologies and interaction with higher networking layers
  • Ability to translate customer input and requirements into technical design requirements.
  • Ability to analysis optical fiber tooling (Power-meter, OTDR, PMD, CD, and AP) testing and result to validate acceptance criteria
  • Support in network configuration activities of new Optical Services
  • Execution of lab trial tests, and report findings to customer, prior to the implementation of new plans. Participate in preparation and testing of new SW releases.
  • Experience with IOS-XR for NCS1k/NCS4k deployments.
  • Understanding of Routing protocols is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of Optical experience
  • Undergraduate degree in Telecommunications & Electronics Engineering or IT areas a plus
  • More than 7 years of experience doing planning, design, and implementation of Cisco Optical SONET and DWDM networking.
  • Experience with Cisco Business Critical Services of Optical networking.
  • Experience with CTC (Cisco Transport Controller), CPO (Cisco Prime Optical) and EPNM (Evolved Programmable Network Manager)
  • Experience with NCS1k, NCS2k, NCS4k and IOS-XR
  • Python, Ansible skills with experience on automation of workflows.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and soft skills
  • Technical Presentation Skills / Engineer & Executive level communications.
