Job Description

Our medical billing team is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join us as a Medical Billing Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing insurance denials, managing accounts, and ensuring accurate billing processes. This position requires excellent communication skills, proficiency in MS Office applications, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities / Duties / Functions / Tasks:

  • Process insurance denials received by phone dispute, written appeal, or corrected claim.
  • Conduct "soft" collections for patient past due accounts, including contacting patients via phone or mail.
  • Understand managed care authorizations and coverage limits, particularly in specialties.
  • Review payer rules to determine reasons for denials.
  • Monitor daily billing processes and provide expertise for specific physician processes.
  • Compose correspondence to payers regarding payment disputes and appeals.
  • Interpret medical documents to determine services provided.
  • Communicate with patients to verify demographics and coordinate benefits on denied claims.
  • Refer complex issues to the supervisor for review or action.
  • Post insurance and patient payments and manage accounts.
  • Answer patient inquiries on account status and charges.
  • Report to AMS Billing Coordinator and provider office manager.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Typing speed of at least 30 words per minute.
  • Prior appeals experience and ability to obtain claim status electronically.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with basic understanding of healthcare plans.
  • Ability to read and understand medical benefits.
  • Bilingual proficiency is a plus.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (CPT, ICD 10).

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in medical collections.
  • Medical Billing Certificate preferred.
