Position Summary

The Community Engagement Coordinator supports the strategic goals of the Office of Advocacy to influence public policy through engaging, educating and empowering the voices of persons within LMM-served communities (individuals and families experiencing homelessness, incarceration, joblessness, and other structural barriers).  This includes participating in community groups and community facing opportunities, planning public facing forums hosted by LMM that provide education on critical topics and advocacy training, and support for internal and external communications working in conjunction with the Director and communications team. 

 

Some of the duties include:

·         Represent LMM at local community meetings and on coalitions, and attend government hearings/meetings as assigned

·         Build relationships with local community leaders, elected officials and administrative staff

·         Identify opportunities for engagement in efforts related to advancing racial equity

·         Work with the Advocacy Director to identify systems-change opportunities based on the needs of the community

·         Identify opportunities to engage staff and community in civic engagement (i.e. voter outreach/registration drives, service days, neighborhood events where LMM sites are located)

·         Plan and facilitate bi-monthly forums or events on topics related to LMM’s civic engagement

·         Develop and maintain a database of community partners/allies in advocacy work

·         Research, coordinate and prepare presentations for various audiences

·         Coordinate with Director of Advocacy and communications team to create communications campaigns to advance an initiative, action, or idea

·         Contribute blog posts monthly to LMM’s advocacy newsletter, and weekly to LMM’s social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.)

·         Provide ongoing input, information, and materials (as requested) that support internal and external communication efforts about racial equity and inclusion

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate has a minimum of two years’ experience working in advocacy, community organizing or related professional experience; Bachelor’s Degree, preferred.  Strong analytical written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse racial, ethnic, socio-economic, and gender backgrounds. Some experience working with people experiencing homelessness, veterans, people with substance use disorders, people with re-entry backgrounds, and/or other relevant social service populations.  A valid Ohio driver license, reliable transportation and proof of insurance, required.
