Education:
 
Work requires High School diploma or experience in a related field, or any other equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. OSHA, heavy equipment, and plant operations training is a plus.
 
Company and General Description:  
 
This position is with a manufacturing company that produces wood pellets and bagged wood shavings located in Burnsville, Mississippi. The company offers competitive wages to the chosen candidate. Job Summary:
 
The person filling this position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing all mechanical equipment at a wood pellet and bagged shavings production plant. Job tasks will range from routine maintenance to complex mechanical troubleshooting and use of precision measurement tools all performed in accordance with plant and safety policy. This position will report directly to the General Manager. 
 
 
 Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
 

ü  Perform maintenance activities that include predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance of plant equipment to provide consistently high levels of plant reliability and production. 
ü  Develop and maintain a culture within the maintenance organization that values a solid work ethic and professionalism while achieving superior industrial safety performance.
ü  Lead a future maintenance staff that safely and efficiently support 24/7 production.
ü  Lead and manage the work of contract hire maintenance personnel along with company hired maintenance technicians.
ü  Achieve high levels of maintenance performance to meet plant production and safety goals. In order to understand production and safety goals, the Maintenance Manager is responsible for daily communication with the General Manager.
ü  Maintain effective interface with the General Manager and Lead Operators to ensure that the condition of the plant and grounds condition and operating performance is sustained and continuously improved.
ü  Conduct maintenance planning with the General Manager to determine and plan required projects, status of ongoing projects, and scheduling of future projects.
ü  Performs repair and maintenance work following blueprint sketches and procedures involving such tasks as drilling, tapping, fabricating, welding, machinery (drive, motor belt and/or chain) alignment and quality control.
ü   Identifies mechanical design, machinery improvements or problems and recommends modifications necessary for resolution.
ü  Responsible for the assistance in pre-planning with the General Manager for all process improvement projects.
ü  Follows safety/environmental rules and regulations. Implements safe working practices and immediately identifies hazards and recommends and/or implements repairs.
ü  Works with all employees in a team effort to support the generating plant in attaining their goals.
ü  Provides training and technical guidance to other team members.
ü  Schedules, coordinates, works with, and monitors contractors on specific tasks as required.
ü  Attend to housekeeping at the end of each job/task which includes but is not limited to the wipe down of equipment, test run, clean-up of tools and spare parts, equipment, or materials to ensure the return to a proper storage area.
ü  Develop and maintain a proper and secure maintenance working and storage area.
ü  Maintains a clean shop, bench, and work area.
ü  Maintains tool inventory with the General Manager and Lead Operators
ü  Maintains parts to meet the readiness needs of the company. Evaluates repair parts inventory levels based on demand, shipping time and other factors deemed by the General Manager.
ü  Maintains various mechanical equipment associated with biomass and to include, infeed systems, large scale screeners, hammer mills, pellet mills, bagging and palletizing equipment, conveyors, chipping equipment, air compressors, gearboxes, medium voltage motors, and other auxiliary equipment.
ü  Maintains rolling stock to include forklifts and other material handling equipment as directed by the General Manager
ü  Develops and implements a maintenance reporting system to record time and material use, work orders, deferred maintenance, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, problems identified and corrected, and further actions required; provide complete history of maintenance on equipment.
ü  Operates a wide variety of construction equipment, power equipment, hand tools and performs rigging and staging erection.
ü  Conducts equipment and system tagging according to company and plant rules and regulations.
ü  Performs housekeeping assignments as directed.
ü  Performs equipment safety inspections as required and records results as appropriate. 
 Participates in small construction projects. Reads and interprets drawings, sketches, prints and specifications as required. 
ü  May be called to respond to emergency call-ins and overtime plus provide acceptable off-hours contact by phone and/or pager. 
ü  Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A high school diploma or GED is required. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and have reliable transportation to and from work. Ability to read, write and speak in the English language and perform basic mathematical computations. Training in mobile heavy equipment, loaders, trucks, and welding is essential. Four (4) years experience as a mechanic/machinist, preferably in an industrial process plant environment to provide for the following:
 

ü  Demonstrated use of standard mechanical tools and precision measurement devices such as calipers, dial indicators, multi-meters, and alignment equipment.
ü  Demonstrated knowledge and understanding in four of the following skills: pipefitting, welding, machining, rigging, rotating machine repair, fabrication, machine alignment, piping schematics, mechanical drawings, basic vibration analysis. 
ü  Demonstrated ability to locate, troubleshoot, adjust, and correct defects in complex mechanical equipment. 
ü  Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices associated with a power plant environment. 
 Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
ü  Demonstrated ability to work with others in a team environment. 
ü  Demonstrated ability to communicate and coordinate work with others on technical subjects across job families. 
ü  Must be able to lift 60 pounds and work in conditions where dust masks and breathing protection may be needed.
