JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Crisis Peer Support Specialist
REPORTS TO: Launch Pad Supervisor
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, full-time
CLASSIFICATION: Hourly
LOCATION: 2650 Broadview Ave, Wasilla AK 99654
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt


GENERAL FUNCTIONS: 
Crisis Peers will act as Service Providers as well as liaisons for all the
providers in the network. Individuals will be able to access community providers through referral
from any of the community provider locations. In addition, they will provide a full array of
evidence-based mental health and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment and recovery
services, based on the client’s needs. These services will include SBIRT, Crisis Stabilization,
Case Management, Intensive Case Management, SUD Care Coordination and Community
Recovery Support Services. This position is responsible for directly connecting and linking all
clients to community services that will help the client succeed with treatment plan goals,
objectives and ASAM dimensions. Provide agency approved weekly case management
interventions during weekly case management sessions and maintain electronic charts on all
clients receiving services within Day One.


This position will be assigned a primary location of the Day One Center. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintains a relationship with all partnering agencies and referral sources
2. Develops and maintains relationships with clients while maintaining healthy and
professional boundaries
3. Develops and cultivates relationships with the community
4. Provides motivational interviewing, social, and emotional support to participants entering
and engaging in the program
5. Use assessment tools as needed to identify areas of need and to provide individualized
care
6. Will assist client’s access to services both inside the collaborative as well as outside of
the collaborative network
7. Will connect with clients through meeting with providers, assisting with accessing
services via transportation, reminders, and advocacy, in addition to case management and
referral support
8. Works to motivate clients utilizing motivational interviewing techniques and positive
reinforcement
9. Helps clients understand and employ recovery strategies
10. Will evaluate the individual’s needs at point of first contact as well as through ongoing
communication to assist the client in receiving the most appropriate level of care in
addition to most appropriate support services in the community
11. Will screen for additional indicators of trauma as it relates to issues onset by the

Covid-19 Pandemic and provide relevant care in response when appropriate
12. Participates in the development of outreach methods and procedures to enhance
operations
13. Attends all relevant trainings and direct support meetings
14. Participate in training in areas related to improvement of service delivery
15. Attends staff meetings and works collaboratively with other staff in case staffing/review


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 
1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
2. If in recovery, ONE (1) year of sobriety prior to hire and active and continuing
participation in a recovery support program, such as a 12-step program
3. Must be working toward CDC I certification; must obtain CDC II OR CDC I, NACA I,
and state obtain approval as a Qualified Addictions Professional (QAP) or a Provisional
(QAP) within 3 years of hire
4. Employment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory state and federal background
check
5. Active in personal recovery by participating in practices that support self-care, health,
and overall well-being
6. Must have a valid Alaska Driver's License and insurable under True North Inc. vehicle
insurance


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: 
1. Basic understanding of substance abuse level of care as defined by ASAM
2. Ability to work under pressure and prioritize workload
3. Knowledge of health and safety regulations
4. Working knowledge of HIPAA
5. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
6. Observes participant’s rights to confidentiality
7. Ability to coordinate multiple activities
8. Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds


SKILLS and ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of alcoholism and drug addiction as a disease.
2. Ability to communicate proficiently verbally and in writing.
3. Demonstrate the ability to respond to crisis situations and emergencies with good
judgment
4. Ability to deescalate agitated clients
5. Ability to maintain healthy boundaries with clients
