Police Dispatcher

The Capital University Dispatchers have the responsibility to provide twenty-four hour daily emergency telephone service to the campus community and maintain twenty-four hour daily radio dispatch service to patrol officers. Dispatchers shall be under the command of the Chief of Police, with immediate supervision provided by the Shift Sergeant.

Responsibilities:

• Maintains logs (such as patrol logs, petty cash logs, parking logs, etc.) and produces related correspondence.
• Manages student employees.
• Manages dispatch and office operations.
• Answers questions from the campus community and the general public covering a wide range of university and Public Safety related matters.
• Manages campus police radios, and monitors campus facilities, Columbus and Bexley radios when possible.
• Contacts Bexley PD and Columbus Fire Department / Medical Personnel when needed.
• Assists in parking services.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma required.
• Public Safety Telecommunicator 1, one to two years of related experience or training in an office environment and experience/training in radio communication; public safety experience/training in higher education or similar field preferred.
• Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain high level of confidentiality.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Ability to work without supervision.
• Excellent facility in using Microsoft Suite.
• Excellent professional verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule; days, evenings, midnight shifts, weekends and holidays.

Dispatchers must pass FBI and BCI&I fingerprint background checks.
