Highlights

Jobs are down 2% since last week, but up 21% since last month. Overall, jobs are down 13% from before the pandemic. 

With Congress still deciding what will be in the second stimulus package, and coronavirus cases rising across the country, things are challenging. There are only 6 million job openings and 18 million unemployed Americans, most of whom are living paycheck to paycheck.

Right now, we expect jobs to remain relatively stable. We also anticipate the second stimulus will pass before the current benefits lapse to avoid both individual and economic hardship that would be tough to recover from.

Our recent survey findings revealed that: 

• 61% of workers receiving additional CARES Act unemployment benefits are anticipating and planning on an extension

• 21% of workers are worried about losing their jobs again

Jobs

All industry data is from 3/2/20-7/28/20

Here are the latest job numbers by industry:

Quick service restaurant (QSR) jobs are down 1% week over week, down 2% month over month and down 27% since early March.

Sit-down restaurant jobs are down 1% week over week, up 7% month over month and down 49% since early March.

Warehouse and logistics jobs are up 59% week over week, up 501% month over month and up 605% since early March.

Retail jobs are down 5% week over week, up 27% month over month and down 16% since early March.

Grocery jobs are down 2% week over week, down 6% month over month and up 14% since early March.

Hospitality jobs are up 3% week over week, up 20% month over month and down 49% since early March.

On demand jobs are down 5% week over week, up 33% month over month and down 27% since early March.

Convenience store jobs are up 4% week over week, up 14% month over month and down 10% since early March.

Healthcare jobs are up 2% week over week, up 8% month over month and up 15% since early March.

What’s happening across America

Los Angeles, CA: Retail jobs are up 15% week over week, down 30% since early March. Hospitality jobs are up 8% week over week, down 60% since early March. Sit-down restaurant jobs are down 2% week over week, down 45% since early March.

Houston, TX: Hospitality jobs are down 13% week over week, down 63% since early March. Retail jobs are down 13% week over week, down 44% since early March. Warehouse and logistics jobs are up 6% week over week, up 21% since early March.

Chicago, IL: Retail jobs are down 10% week over week, down 23% since early March. Warehouse and logistics jobs are up 252% week over week, up 426% since early March. Grocery jobs are down 9% week over week, down 15% since early March.

Lexington, KY: Retail jobs are down 18% week over week, down 5% since early March. Sit-down restaurant jobs are down 10% week over week, down 33% since early March. Warehouse and logistics jobs are up 29% week over week, up 43% since early March. Hospitality jobs are down 10% week over week, down 40% since early March.

Workers

Google searches for part-time jobs are down 1% week over week, down 21% month over month and down 25% since early March.
