Highlights

Overall, jobs are up 5% week over week, up 6% month over month and up 2% since early March.

America’s economic recovery is slow, but consistent, with improvement in several promising spots this week. For the second week in a row, new jobless claims were under a million—the first time under the 1M mark in consecutive weeks since March. 

The delay of another federal stimulus threatens to limit the pace of the rebound. And though consumer sentiment remains well below pre-pandemic levels, consumer confidence posted its largest one-week jump in 11 years, according to Bloomberg. In fact, OpenTable reports that restaurant reservations have improved for a seventh straight week. 

The post-reopen economic recovery has lost a little momentum, but jobs are still coming back—and workers are more motivated than ever to get one. 

Jobs

Here are the latest job numbers by industry:

Quick service restaurant (QSR) jobs are flat week over week, up 2% month over month and down 26% since early March.

Sit-down restaurant jobs are up 1% week over week, up 2% month over month and down 48% since early March.

Warehouse and logistics jobs are up 217% week over week, down 108% month over month and up 491% since early March.

Retail jobs are flat week over week, down 8% month over month and down 14% since early March.

Grocery jobs are up 2% week over week, up 26% month over month and up 43% since early March.

Hospitality jobs are up 2% week over week, up 2% month over month and down 46% since early March.

On demand jobs are up 3% week over week, up 18% month over month and up 9% since early March.

Convenience store jobs are up 2% week over week, up 4% month over month and down 15% since early March.

Healthcare jobs are up 1% week over week, up 20% month over month and up 32% since early March.

What’s happening across America

Dallas, TX: On demand jobs are up 42% week over week, up 6% since early March. Retail jobs are down 4% week over week, down 27% since early March. Grocery jobs are up 16% week over week, up 78% since early March.

Virginia Beach, VA: Retail jobs are up 26% week over week, up 36% since early March. Hospitality jobs are up 13% week over week, up 13% since early March. Sit-down restaurant jobs are up 9% week over week, down 37% since early March.

Miami, FL: Warehouse and logistics jobs are up 28% week over week, up 106% since early March. Grocery jobs are down 12% week over week, up 70% since early March. Hospitality jobs are up flat week over week, down 80% since early March.

Denver, CO: Retail jobs are up 2% week over week, down 28% since early March. QSR jobs are up 4% week over week, down 12% since early March. On demand jobs are up 18% week over week, up 251% since early March.

Workers

Google searches for part-time jobs are up 9% week over week, down 9% month over month and down 33% since early March.
