  • Job Summary
    • Functions as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide basic nursing care to the patient under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Performs a variety of activities for assigned patients and their families and significant others. Follows department specific policies and procedures, and maintains competencies of assigned department.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Minimum Qualifications
      • High school graduate or equivalent.
      • Current Maryland Nursing Assistant Certification
      • BLS certification within introductory period
    • Preferred Qualifications
      • Acute care experience
      • GNA with six months continuous employment in a long term care facility
      • Successful completion of Maryland EMT course or one year EMT experience or previous ED work experience (ED)

  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities
    • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
    • Assists patients with activities of daily living, i.e. bathing, dressing, skin care, positioning, feeding, ambulation, toileting and range of motion activities. Documents/communicates care per unit protocols.
    • Assists with environmental services support such as linen management, trash removal, and cleaning patient rooms as needed.
    • Assists with transport of patients, specimens, equipment and supplies as appropriate.
    • Communicates changes in the patient's condition and family concerns to the licensed nurse. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
    • Maintains an active surveillance of the nursing unit to observe and meet patient needs.
    • Obtains patient data accurately and documents information (vital signs, etc.).
    • Performs basic patient care procedures as defined in unit-based competency orientation (thermal applications, non-sterile soaks, application of simple dressings, perineal care, and Point of Care Laboratory waived testing, to include but not limited to glucose and urine testing, etc.).
    • Reports actual and potential problems concerning patients, families, staff and their departments to the Registered Nurse. Responds to questions from patient, families and significant others in a prompt, courteous, positive manger, referring them to appropriate personnel if necessary.
    • Performs other duties as assigned. Maintains Clinical ladder requirements as appropriate.
