The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking applicants for its 2024 Summer Internship Program located in Mechanicsburg, PA. This is a unique opportunity for students interested in pursuing careers in corrections, criminal justice, government administration, and other related areas. The field of corrections is multidisciplinary and deploys the expertise and services of individuals from a wide-range of professions.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Criminal Justice Intern for the DOC, you will work directly with department personnel and leadership across the corrections system to complete various projects and assignments. You will have access to confidential information and will be responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of that information and must maintain and demonstrate professionalism at all times. You must also complete a short (paid) training curriculum during your first week of employment. You will also have the opportunity to visit several state correctional institutions and community corrections facilities to gain knowledge about the daily operations inside a facility. All students who are selected to participate in this program will receive an invaluable experience within a DOC office or bureau and will attend regular learning and networking opportunities to foster professional growth and development.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time, 12-week internship from May 20, 2024 to August 9, 2024
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch (37.50 hours a week).
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:
  • You must be enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  • You must be 18 years of age or older.
  • You must be working toward a degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Government Administration, or another related field.

Additional Requirement:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirement:
  • You must pass a background investigation.
