Facilities Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

SUMMARY: The Facilities Mechanical Engineer is responsible for maintenance support to and improvement of The Electric Materials Company plant. These responsibilities include assessing resource requirements and optimizing plant critical operational systems, and support to maintenance of plant infrastructure and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Gather and analyze data, blueprints, and reports. Maintain and improve plant layout drawings/library. Determine facility and equipment specifications. Support the implementation of facility expansion, layout changes, various systems, and quality controls. Gather vendor quotes and analyze project costs and work scope to support selection of best vendor for facilities and maintenance projects. Effectively manage projects and drive to successful completion. Evaluate facility and equipment assets to ascertain and improve operational efficiencies. Develop and improve maintenance plans. Develop drawings and/or reverse engineer work parts to support maintenance of equipment. Coordinate and oversee contractors performing maintenance activities. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, building codes, and health and safety standards. Develop equipment lock out/tag out procedures for approval. Prepare reports and compliance documentation. Good verbal and written communication skills. Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Assist with troubleshooting of unexpected and/or major equipment breakdowns.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering (or a related discipline); at least 5 years related experience and or training; or equivalent combination or education and experience

MATHEMATICAL and/or COMPUTER SKILLS: Ability to apply basic math and measurements to practical situations. Knowledge of computer operation and related software required, to include computer aided drafting (CAD) software applications and Microsoft Office. Familiarity with programmable logic controller (PLC) applications, enterprise resource planning (ERP), and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee is occasionally required to access heights and confined spaces.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Support environmental regulatory compliance and waste water treatment. Support production testing of commutator assemblies.

Perform other duties assigned by management.
