About Sasha Bruce Youthwork (SBY)

Sasha Bruce Youthwork (SBY) is the leading provider of homeless youth services in the DC Region. Through the holistic integration of its Pillars of Opportunity, Sasha Bruce is able to provide safe homes, life skills, and workforce development to meet the unique needs of homeless youth. For more than 45 years, Sasha Bruce has implemented innovative interventions aimed at bringing an end to youth homelessness in the DC region. Today, its programs in DC and Prince George’s County, MD, reach over 6,500 runaway, homeless, abused, and neglected youth, and their families.

About This Program and Position Summary

The Resilient Scholars Program Coordinator will oversee and support the Resilient Scholars Program which came out of the Jerry M Contempt Funds Initiative. This program will work with young people who have exited or are exiting from New Beginnings who are close to graduating or obtaining their GED by providing tutoring, mentoring as well as providing workforce development. This is an intensive program with regular client check-ins on progress towards graduation, job readiness and employment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in a Social Work, psychology, or a human services related field preferred with three-to-five years of experience working with at risk youth, vulnerable populations;
  • Experience managing grants, supporting research and working with the educational systems in the District a plus;
  • Strong communication and organizational skills required; and,
  • All candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation; pass the required clearances; and provide any additional information regarding previous records, if necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide daily oversight of all aspects of this initiative;
  • Screen clients for eligibility; supports Workplace Success Specialist in completing vulnerability assessments with eligible clients;
  • Creates and develops personal Education Plans with each youth; this plan includes information on what the client’s definition of academic success is along with their challenges and intended next steps; this plan will serve as the basis for program success and will also ensure to encapsulate information on attendance, grades, progress notes, any behavioral issues and modification plans, extracurricular and other supports required;
  • Reevaluates Education Plans based on client successes and needs;
  • Collaborates with school staff, other educational supports and family members when relevant including the inclusion of those people in education plans if possible as well as school and home visits;
  • Refers clients to secondary education programs to include coding and technology courses and certification programs as well as community college and four year programs; supports clients in applying as well as throughout time in courses/programs;
  • Collaborates with the Sasha Bruce College and Career Program Director when appropriate;
  • Oversees virtual and in-person tutoring services for clients; supervise tutors and check in regularly to ensure clients are meeting studying and educational goals in tutoring;
  • Creates overall curriculum for clients in educational programming; creates and regularly facilitates trainings and workshops on relevant topics including study skills development, graduation requirements, trade schools, college applications, college access exams, and other related topics;
  • Works closely with the Workplace Success Specialist to support workforce development programming such as workshops, trainings and referrals;
  • Support or provide crisis intervention and on-site counseling when appropriate;
  • Complete service documentation in client case records within 24-48 hours of the service; maintain accurate, complete, and confidential case files, written documentation, reports to track client progress and outcomes;
  • Oversees all partnerships including MOU execution and check ins with partners, providers or volunteers.
  • Executes personnel actions, including hiring, evaluating and separating employees and contractors as appropriate;
  • Ensure proper maintenance of all administrative and financial records, including the provision of timely and accurate documentation of all activities and tasks, including progress reports, Unusual Incident reports and community partner meeting minutes as needed;
  • Work with staff to develop partnerships and quality assurance systems to ensure grant management and outcomes;
  • Participates in regular team consultation meetings about clients, staff meetings, partnership meetings, trainings, conferences, regular supervision and community outreach events as required;
  • Must have a commitment to ending youth homelessness, racial equity, inclusion, and issues central to Sasha Bruce Youthwork’s mission; and,
  • Other duties as assigned.
