Job Description
The Laboratory Technician conducts on-site clinical laboratory procedures, obtains and prepares specimens for transport to reference labs, and executes laboratory quality assurance procedures in accordance with agency, state, and federal guidelines.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains confidentiality of patients and corporate information;
Collects and performs routine on-site lab procedures;
Obtains and prepares specimens for transport to labs;
Maintains records of all lab examinations and analyses in accordance with applicable CLIA, JCAHO standards;
Performs monthly laboratory count for each site, compile composite report;
Assists Laboratory Services Coordinator in Quality Management activities for satellite locations;
Performs phlebotomy procedures, processing specimens for Cyto lab testing and HIV testing;
Checks Reference Lab billing monthly to ensure accurate billing;
Maintains adequate supply of materials in the lab;
Assists to locate equipment for new and existing sites, and to set up laboratory at new sites;
Conduct training and retraining of clinical staff in Waived test procedures; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must have a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification/degree.
Registration and license for the State of Alabama.
A minimum of two years’ experience as a lab technician.
Must be skillful in venipunctures.
