DUTIES:

Performs various simple manual tasks which are easily learned such as:

In the serving area: Sets up glasses, silverware, butter, condiments, salads, desserts, bread, and cold beverages on serving counter as instructed. Cleans tables of paper, other trash, or soiled linens, and wipes tables with towel to remove crumbs or other food particles. Removes soiled dishes from tables and transports them to the dishwashing area.

In the food preparation area: Cuts, scrapes, chops, dices, and peels fruits and vegetables. May operate electric can opener, electric potato peeler, etc.

In dishwashing area: Separates food waste and trash. Scrapes and pre-rinses dishes with water to remove food particles before washing. Loads dishes in dishwasher, stacks, and stores dishes. May hand wash dishes, following prescribed steps. Stacks and stores clean dishes.

Cleans cooking and service equipment. Scrapes, cleans, scrubs, washes, or wipes equipment, such as ranges, ovens, electric or gas fryers, pressure cookers, steam kettles, and broilers. Drains and cleans coffee and tea urns. Scrubs and scours worktables. Cleans grease traps in sinks. Removes garbage to collection points. Clean woodwork, windows, and displays counters. Sweeps, mops, waxes floors. Polishes dining area furniture. Carries supplies between storeroom, kitchen and dining area and run errands.

Receives specific instructions for new tasks from supervisor, after which incumbent independently complete duties in the same way each time. The supervisor can readily observe whether the work is performed properly.

Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Minimum:

1. No previous work experience required but must have the ability to read and understand written material and follow instructions. Must be able to use hand tools for cleaning and operating simple machines.

2. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete food handler's training.

3. Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods of time.

Preferred (in addition to minimum):

4. Six months’ experience in a food service facility.
