3 tips to find a job during the holiday season

Being unemployed and on the job hunt is hard enough, but when you layer in the holiday season it can feel extra chaotic and overwhelming. But here’s the thing, employers are still hiring and need help ASAP—this year more than ever!

With the pandemic, several states are under different forms of lockdown. Stores are seeing less foot traffic with a big move toward online shopping. Slower in-person traffic leaves employers with more time to dedicate toward hiring, and a huge need to hire employees to support increased online activity.

If you’re thinking about waiting until the holidays are over to start looking, think again!

Here are 3 tips to find a job during the holiday season:

  1. Smarter keyword searching
There are millions of available jobs on Snagajob. Narrow down your focus to job postings that are aggressively hiring. When searching, start with your zip code and radius (the distance you’re willing to drive to work.)

Next, layer on more specific keywords. These are located below the search bar. Urgently Hiring, Essential Jobs, and Easy Apply will narrow your search down to jobs near you that need workers ASAP! You can select more than one keyword at a time.

  2. Be industry agnostic
This year transformed jobs across the board. Several positions you’ve held in the past might not be available, and in some cases may not come back. The good news is your skills and experience are easily transferred to different positions in industries you may have never considered before.

Change is scary, but it’s also exciting! Be prepared for your next job to potentially be something you’ve never considered. Don’t search by industry so you can see all the options available which you are qualified for!

  3. Consider a seasonal position
There is uncertainty in hiring. Employers aren’t sure how potential lockdowns are going to affect their business needs. What is certain, is employers need help during the holiday season. In fact, 75% of businesses plan to hire additional staff. Search the keyword “Seasonal” or “Temporary” on Snagajob to find what’s available near you.

A seasonal job has the potential to turn into a full-time position. Communicate with the hiring manager your desire to be hired after the holiday season and be sure to make a good impression to elevate your chances!

Hiring doesn't stop because the holidays are here. Don't miss out on your chance of landing a job!
