Weekly Hourly Hiring Report 3/9/2021

Highlights

Overall jobs are up 37% month over month and up 54% year over year.

According to last Friday’s Jobs Report, 355,000 of the 379,000 jobs added during February were in the leisure and hospitality industry.  Total restaurant bookings are also up, an indicator that the service industry is regaining strength.

In other good news, more than two million Americans are receiving the vaccine each day. The CDC has released new guidelines for those who have been vaccinated, encouraging more safe social-activities and gives hope that life is slowly going back to normal.  Industries like hospitality and restaurants are hopeful about the impact this could have on their businesses.

The $1.9 trillion relief package, known as the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, was passed by the Senate on Saturday and will head to the House, before final approval by the President.

Under the Senate version, federal unemployment insurance payments will remain at $300 per week — down from $400 per week in the earlier package passed by the House. The benefits will extend through Sept. 6. The bill includes a payment to qualifying Americans as well as money for vaccines, schools, small businesses and anti-poverty programs.
